Fire bug in the hills

Residents in Perth’s hills are being urged to look out for arsonists following several suspicious fires in the area.

The Fire and Emergency Services Authority (FESA) says there have been more than 20 deliberately lit fires in the hills in the past few weeks.

FESA says that with temperatures in the high 30s forecast in coming days, there is a real danger property, or lives, could be lost if bushfires are lit.

FESA says residents should keep an eye out for arsonists and call Crime Stoppers if they see anything suspicious.

Three blazes in Chidlow / Mahogany Creek

Emergency services have contained a number of fires in the hills east of Perth.

Three blazes have been brought under control in the localities of Chidlow and Mahogany Creek.

FESA fire crews and helitacs are still battling a blaze in Helena Valley.

Motorists have been advised to avoid the area and local residents should monitor the radio for advice.
